Burlington Central preparing to leave Big NorthernNov 18, 2013 10:57 PM - Burlington Central intends to leave the Big Northern Conference to join a new league, and the Rockets have company. Under a proposal presented to the District 301 school board by Burlington Central principal Matthew Haug and athletic director Steve Diversey at Monday's meeting, the school would withdraw from the Big Northern Conference's East Division following the 2014-15 school year along with Marengo, Harvard and Genoa-Kingston, all original members of the BNC, founded in 1991.

Memorable week for Westminster despite lopsided lossOct 4, 2013 10:48 PM - The result was a 67-0 defeat to Rockford Christian Life, but there were smiles all over Westminster Christian on Friday night. The Warriors celebrated their first football homecoming with a packed crowd on their sideline. "It was amazing, something we've never had before," said DeShawn Bloom, who is one of only four seniors on the Westminster roster. "It felt good. It felt prideful, just on top of the world."

Burlington Central notches first winSep 13, 2013 11:33 PM - Due to some injuries, Burlington Central head coach Rich Crabel was forced to move some players around, including moving quarterback Casey Matthews to running back and giving Parth Patel his first start of the season under center. Both moves worked out pretty well for the Rockets as Matthews scored the game's first touchdown with a 20-yard run and Patel ran the offense flawlessly in leading Burlington Central to a 34-0 victory in its Big Northern East opener against Rockford Christian Friday night on Rocket Hill.

Burlington C. has tough competition in Big Northern EastAug 28, 2013 7:58 PM - Opportunities abound for the Burlington Central football team. Third-year coach Rich Crabel has plenty of options at his disposal, particularly on offense where he said between 6-10 running backs and receivers, six different tight ends and four different fullbacks could play on any given night. That's just on offense. Crabel added six to eight defensive linemen and between eight and 10 cornerbacks could see action. Central is coming off a 2012 season where it went 5-4 and 4-2 in Big Northern Conference East Division play. The Rockets were playoff-eligible, but missed on points.

Mission accomplished for the Royals, who made quick work of host Christian Liberty with a 50-6 win in the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Running back Gary Ford was impressive with 3 touchdowns and 218 yards rushing in 20 attempts.

Shayna Manusos recorded 7 aces and Jade Martinez anchored the back row with 10 digs.

Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundupSep 13, 2011 10:21 PM - Nick Lorusso scored the go-ahead goal in the 35th minute while Brad Cleveland found the back of the net twice to lead the Jacobs boys soccer team (6-3) to a 3-1 nonconference victory over Woodstock Tuesday. Harvest Christian Academy 7, Berean Baptist 2: The Lions cruised to an easy victory as they defeated Berean Baptist on the road. Andrew Hempel recorded a hat trick while Connor Kearns (2 goals), Zach Harbaugh, and Chris Desouza all added goals. Patrick McGuire and Luke Agase recorded 3 saves each for the Lions.

Suburban high schools flock to TeamDance championships in PeoriaMar 6, 2011 7:48 PM - Poms, flag teams and dancers from more than 100 high schools throughout Illinois are converging on the Peoria Civic Center today for one of prep sports' most colorful state championships. But if you think "best in poms" means a traditional halftime routine, think again. Just the name of the sanctioning organization -- TeamDance Illinois -- reflects the trend. In all, more than 2,000 students will be competing, as they showcase the best dance, flag and poms routines from throughout the state.
