Kasper: In baseball debates, anonymity has an ugly side
Sep 7, 2014 2:28 PM - With all that the Internet offers, you have take the good with the bad. And the good -- the system of checks and balances everywhere you look on the web -- outweighs the bad, says Cubs insider Len Kasper. The ugly side of anonymous commentary, however, can ruin the experience.

Kasper: Fun to make early evaluation of big trade
Aug 31, 2014 9:36 PM - This week's Cubs Insider column by Len Kasper: It's way too premature to assess the trade the Cubs made with the Oakland Athletics on July 4, but it is fun to look at what has gone on since that big deal.

Kasper: Talking baseball with Pat Hughes
Aug 24, 2014 11:30 PM - Pat Hughes is now in his 19th season as the radio voice of the Cubs and has been a big league announcer for three full decades. Len Kasper, in an extensive Q&A, talks with his radio counterpart about how he goes about his craft.

Kasper: Making predictions makes very little sense
Aug 17, 2014 10:02 PM - I always chuckle to myself when people ask me to make predictions in this game. When will Kris Bryant be here? Who's going to win the National League Central? Do you think Javier Baez will make the proper adjustments and become more patient? We live in an opinionated world, our thoughts quickly conveyed in 140 characters or less. I am as guilty as anyone, especially when watching an NFL or NHL game in the off-season. That's when I can just react to each moment with overblown, unreasonable proclamations.

Cubs front office steps on the accelerator
Aug 10, 2014 5:40 PM - Bob Dylan's anthem "The Times They Are a-Changin'" would be an appropriate theme song for the current state Chicago Cubs. Roster moves have been coming at a fast and furious pace. While the talent-compiling process had gone on at a rather slow and steady pace, Cubs Insider Len Kasper says it feels like the Cubs have suddenly shifted from second to fifth gear in a snap of their fingers.

Baseball's unwritten rules not worth the trouble
Aug 4, 2014 11:39 AM - Baseball seems to have a lot of unwritten rules when it comes to things like showboating, stealing bases and bunting with large leads. Len Kasper, in his weekly Cubs Insider column, considers these unwritten rules as mostly ridiculous and not worth the stress they seem to cause.

Kasper: Every broadcaster has to find comfort zone
Jul 28, 2014 5:30 AM - I am a preparation fiend. Anyone who knows me well will tell you that. And every year I try to tighten up and streamline that process, which can become onerous if you let it overwhelm you. The last thing you want to be thinking about once the game starts is, "Did I prepare properly for this game?" Ultimately, it comes down to comfort, and every broadcaster is different. I used to try to know every little detail about each player before we ever hit the air. But that takes an exorbitant amount of time and it also created some tunnel vision, making it more difficult sometimes to focus on the big storylines of the game.

Some uniform advice for Brewers, Padres from Len Kasper
Jul 20, 2014 11:12 PM - Len Kasper freely admits he is a sports uniform and logo nut. And he says he has thoroughly enjoyed this season's decade-to-decade journey of the Cubs' outfits as part of Wrigley Field's 100th birthday celebration, particularly the Gabby Hartnett-era uniform. He shares some of his sartorial opinions regarding other teams, including the Brewers, Royals, Blue Jays and Padres.

Cubs' trade stings a bit, but it was the right move
Jul 14, 2014 10:24 AM - Now that the shock of the Jeff Samardzija/Jason Hammel deal has worn off, Cubs Insider Len Kasper don't think there should be much question about what the Cubs did and why they did it. Trading Samardzija was inevitable so why wait until next year when you are more likely to be in buy mode?

Broadcasters have a duty to talk about no-hitters
Jul 6, 2014 3:13 PM - The amount of nasty and incoherent tweets that Len Kasper gets every time there's a no-hitter in progress is astounding to him. As he explains in today's Cubs Insider column, "Our job in the booth is to tell people what's happening (duh!). It's also to keep people watching (double duh!). And if we don't mention that a no-hitter is in progress, I am completely whiffing on my duties."
