That's what volunteering has allowed the senior at Naperville Central High School to accomplish. Watson and other members of the 2014-15 Daily Herald Leadership Team all found ways to make a difference in their communities. "If anyone hasn't noticed, ISIS went from a group that supposedly wasn't a threat to the United States to being our existential enemy in a matter of weeks, which I think is a lot of political grandstanding," he said. "I happen to think this type of prosecution is a misuse of the criminal justice system to really advance our geopolitical purposes."

"My client is a very intelligent and fervent believer of Islam," Durkin said. "Whether anyone else disagrees with how he sees things is another issue, and that's his right."
