    After giving up 96 points in its last two games, South Elgin knew the defense would have to improve and make changes if the Storm wants to have a shot at reaching the playoffs this year. The changes worked as the Storm caused 5 turnovers and scored 2 defensive touchdowns in cruising to a 71-24 victory over East Aurora in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division play at Roy E. Davis Field in Aurora Friday night.

But it was just the JV players, with South Elgin hitting a last second 3-pointer to win it, setting the stage for what would be an entertaining night of basketball on both ends of the court. Spoiling senior night for East Aurora, the Storm’s varsity was able to come back and hit just enough free throws down the stretch to take out Upstate Eight Valley foe East Aurora 84-78 on Monday night in Aurora.

    Coming in with a 9-game losing streak, the East Aurora boys basketball team needed a win. Not only did the Tomcats get that win on Saturday against Bartlett, they picked up their first road win of the season and first win of 2014 with a 67-61 victory in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division play. To top it off, East Aurora coach Wendell Jeffries earned his 200th career victory, and the Tomcats avenged a 60-59 loss against Bartlett last week.
