Teams hitting .192 don't often rally from 5 runs down to win playoff games, which is why St. Edward's 9-8 walk-off win over Christian Liberty Academy was such an improbable thrill for Green Wave baseball fans in Elgin Monday. No. 4 St. Edward (10-18) overcame deficits of 5-0 and 8-3 with 3 runs in the sixth and 3 more in the seventh to stun No. 5 Christian Liberty Academy (11-13) in a play-in game of the Class 2A Aurora Christian regional at Wing Park.

Sam Amedin's 5-goal outburst helped fuel a big day for Christian Liberty Academy's girls soccer team, which overwhelmed visting Schaumburg Christian 10-0 in a nonconference contest Thursday afternoon in Arlington Heights. The Chargers' leading goal-scorer bagged 4 in the first half as the hosts built a 8-goal advantage at the intermission before finishing off the Conquerors with 2 more to give Aaron DeRidder's club plenty of momentum heading into a regular-season finale Friday at Lake Forest Academy before a regional opener next Tuesday.
