State funding for the long-awaited Carpenter Park improvement project is being released, Carpentersville officials said, and construction could resume as early as this fall.

On Sunday, Aug. 28, Advocate Sherman Hospital and the Advocate Charitable Foundation will be hosting "Music by the Water" on the hospital's lakeside terrace. Performing will be area band Smokin Gunz, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra affiliated Moeller Cello and Guitar Duo, and The Moonlighters, a band of Sherman physicians. New this year, guests will be able to participate in line dancing.

The Chicago Cubs inspired longtime radio newsman Stew Cohen to write a new Cubs anthem. Local band Vertical Jam will perform it live for the first time Friday at the musical festival in Carpentersville.
