Be the Match Registry Drive held to honor Grayslake North teacher

A special event will be held at Grayslake North High School Saturday, Dec. 10, to honor Laura Bertermann, aka "Mrs. B." Bertermann is a beloved teacher at Grayslake North High School who is fighting AML leukemia and is undergoing a stem cell transplant.

A Be the Match Registry Drive will be held at the Grayslake North vs. Grayslake Central basketball game from 5:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Grayslake North High School, 1925 N. Illinois 83, Grayslake.

The Grayslake community will have the opportunity to show their love for Mrs. B by joining the Be the Match registry in hopes of saving the lives of other patients in need.

Each year, 12,000 patients like Mrs. B require a blood stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. Bertermann found a donor on the Be the Match Registry, however, many other patients are still searching for their perfect match.

Anyone ages 18-40 can join the Be the Match Registry simply by texting "Mrs. B" to 61474 or by visiting my.bethematch.org/MrsB.
