Acclaimed Mariachi Herencia de Mexico teams with Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee Lupita Infante at the MAC Oct. 2

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the McAninch Arts Center brings Mariachi's hottest new talent to the Belushi Performance Hall Stage 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2.

hicago's own Latin Grammy nominated Mariachi Herencia de Mexico will team up with Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee Lupita Infante, granddaughter of Mexican icon Pedro Infante in a new show, that is part of the 2022-2023 "Herederos" tour honoring legacy and celebrating Mariachi Herencia's brand-new album, "Herederos" (The Heirs).

The historic tradition of mariachi music has roots throughout Mexico, especially in the cities of Guadalajara and Mexico City, places where the festive folk style lives on today, past its glory days in the mid-1900s. Today, it has been said that the future of the evolving genre may rest in the hands of a dynamic ensemble, Mariachi Herencia de Mexico. On the Aisle says, "As a sixth generation Mexican American, hearing this genre of music presented with such passion and artistry filled me with me with emotion and pride in my roots that is difficult to express in words … Maybe 20 or 30 years from now, all groups will sound like this."

The Chicago-based troupe has released four highly acclaimed studio albums with chart-topping debuts on both the Billboard and the iTunes Latin Album charts, defying a music industry trend and pointing to a revival in recorded mariachi music. The groups "Nuestra Herencia" album scored a Latin Grammy nomination in the "Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album" category. The group also has featured guest vocal appearances in their albums by popular Mexican singer/songwriter Lila Downs and veteran mariachi singer Aida Cuevas.

Joining Mariachi Herencia de Mexico will be Mexican American singer/songwriter Lupita Infante, granddaughter of Pedro Infante. Infante's music is an artistic expression of her musical upbringing, paying tribute to her grandfather and her father Pedro Infante, Jr. while adapting it for the Millennial and Gen Z generations. "La Serenata," Infante's debut studio album, was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Regional Mexican Music Album" and her song "Dejaré" was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award. Infante has been featured as Billboard's "Latin Artist On The Rise" and this past July performed live from Mexico City as part of the 2022 Latin Grammy Acoustic Sessions.
