Glen Ellyn church to host concert by Irish singer-songwriter Emma Langford

Award-winning singer-songwriter Emma Langford will appear in concert at Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

As part of her Midwestern tour, Langford will perform at Grace before heading to the stage at the Milwaukee Irish Fest later that week.

Langford calls Limerick City in the west of Ireland home. Storytelling sits at the heart of everything this songwriter does, interweaving her live performances and shining through her works. Hers is an inimitable, dreamy voice at the front line of a new wave of Irish folk.

Recipient of the 2018 Folk Award for Best Emerging Artist from Ireland's national broadcast station RTE, and twice nominated for Best Folk Singer, Langford practices the art of song and musical storytelling backed by Dr. Alec Brown on cello and flute, who complements her guitar with innovative takes on traditional melodies and unique soundscapes.

Her two albums, "Quiet Giant" and "Sowing Acorns," have each received wide acclaim.

In 2019, Langford made her U.S. debut at the world's largest celebration of Irish music, Milwaukee Irish Fest. She traverses the Atlantic once again this August, accompanied by Brown, a multi-instrumentalist who has formed an integral part of the Emma Langford ensemble from day 1, both in studio and on stage. While he hails from Arkansas, Brown has lived and worked in Ireland for over a decade, contributing generously to the country's vibrant musical tapestry. A flautist and cellist with an Arts Practice Ph.D., he has developed a unique sound which he uses to create folk, traditional and bluegrass music as well as ambient soundscapes to accompany live and recorded performances.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 493 Forest Ave. The church lot will be reserved for those with limited mobility. A link to Glen Ellyn's interactive parking lot map is available via www.graceglenellyn.org/concerts.html.

Tickets, which are $15, are available at the door, at the church office, (630) 469-1555, or online at www.GraceGlenEllyn.org. There is a $1 processing fee per ticket for online orders.
