Park District Tips Off Parks & Rec Madness July 5

When it comes to "madness|" in Streamwood, July just became the new March.

To celebrate National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)'s annual National Park and Recreation Month this July, the Streamwood Park District will roll out a new social media promotion called Parks & Rec Madness. The Facebook-driven bracket tournament pits 32 Streamwood parks versus 32 recreational amenities, where the winners are selected by the public round-by-round until a champion is crowned.

Parks & Rec Madness begins at noon Tuesday, July 5, when the park district unveils the bracket and the field of 64 participants vying for the title. Park district staff helped select each of the participants.

First round voting action tips off Tuesday, July 5 on the Streamwood Park District Facebook page at www.facebook.com/StreamwoodParks. Round one voting concludes at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 8.

The full Parks & Rec Madness voting schedule is as follows:

Round 1: July 5-8

Round 2: July 11-13

Round 3: July 18-19

Round 4: July 21-22

Round 5: July 25-26

Round 6: July 27-28

At the end of each round, the winning team in each matchup will advance to face their next opponent in the subsequent round in each region.

As a double bonus, the park district is also offering the public a chance to predict the winners in the Parks & Rec Madness Bracket Challenge with a free, one-year Individual Fitness Membership ($225 value) at Park Place Family Recreation Center in Partnership with RUSH Physical Therapy, 550 S. Park Blvd., as the grand prize.

"We hope the community enjoys Parks & Rec Madness," said Streamwood Park District Executive Director Jeffrey Janda. "We also hope this promotion helps grow our communications footprint to enable us to better engage with more people about the value of all of our parks, facilities, programs and events."
