Get ideas from club's annual Garden Walk, Unique Boutique

The Arlington Heights Garden Club will hold its annual Garden Walk & Unique Boutique from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 26.

Six outstanding gardens will be showcased, as well as the grounds of the Arlington Heights Historical Society. All of the gardens show the creativity of the owners and the joy they receive from developing and caring for a garden that fits their lifestyle.

From the budding gardener to the more seasoned ones, new ideas to enhance the landscaping of a home can be found on the walk.

The many layered garden of Katie and Scott Anstandig makes good use of space while creating a restful and imaginative setting for a family with two young boys. Five-year-old Oliver has his own garden created with plants he started from seeds that he displays proudly to those who come to visit.

Three other residential gardens will exhibit water features; hardscaping, including stonework and boulders; a variety of conifers; an assortment of perennial and annual plants; and a miniature Mount Rushmore.

Viewing the gardens will provide many fascinating and creative ideas to consider for your own garden.

Luther Village's certified Wildlife Habitat is normally not open to the public, but on the day of the garden walk everyone is welcome to explore four-acre ponds, a Spiritual Enrichment garden, a cutting garden, a butterfly garden and a Veterans garden.

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library's expanding butterfly/pollinator garden will be showcased, and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions.

The Unique Boutique on the grounds of the Arlington Heights Historical Museum is free and open to the public. Moree than 20 vendors will have handcrafted arts, crafts and garden décor for sale. There is also a raffle with prizes.

At the boutique, there will be an Ask-A-Gardener booth manned by Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension Service, an Ask the Arborist booth from The Davey Tree Expert Company and community information provided by the village of Arlington Heights.

The Arlington Heights Library will have a mobile book check out and provide plants, while supplies last. The Historical Museum will have a community booth and sell their soda pop. Live music will also be featured.

Garden Walk tickets can be purchased for $20 the day of the event, or $15 in advance at two Arlington Heights Village Bank & Trust locations, the Arlington Heights Farmers Market each Saturday in June, and online at www.ahgardenclub.

Proceeds benefit scholarship, conservation and community activities.
