Palatine Rural Fire Protection District to change its name

On June 1, 2022 the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District will change its name to Inverness Fire Protection District. The district will continue to operate from its headquarters station at 35 Ela Road in Inverness, and continue its collaboration with Palatine and Rolling Meadows in the RPM cooperative.

Emergency services have been provided to the area since 1887 when coverage was provided by the Palatine Deluge Company. In 1933, the Palatine Fire Protection League was formed, which became the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District. After the Palatine Fire Department began full time operations in 1977, protection of portions of Inverness, Palatine Township, and Schaumburg Township remained under the direction of the fire protection district. In 1995, the entities split and Palatine Rural Fire Protection District was established as a career fire district.

The fire district employs 18 personnel and operates a fire engine and ambulance with supplemental equipment for other emergencies. The district protects approximately 15 square miles and 15,000 residents.
