Glen Ellyn Historical Society hosts 'Concert of Songs of the Civil Rights Movement' April 29
The Glen Ellyn Historical Society presents a "Concert of Songs of the Civil Rights Movement" at 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St.
The program, "Oh Freedom! Songs of the Civil Rights Movement" is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement and features award winning folk singer Chris Vallillo. He will be performing pivotal songs from the music that inspired and sustained this landmark movement.
A combination of music and Vallillo's firsthand account of the historic struggle reflects the impact of music to our nation's most important social cause. Songs became the backbone of the nonviolent civil disobedience movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King and others.
This is a free program that is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
