Music, Memories and Marcy

It is with no lack of hard work and dedication that Marcy Heston has helped the Harper Festival Chorus come back to rehearse and perform "A Celebration of Music" at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, at the Harper Performing Arts Center. Marcy has contributed her time and effort and great soprano voice since she joined the chorus in 1988, and has served as its president from 1991-2005 and again from 2013 to 2022. She will watch a new president take over on April 11, as she gets ready to retire to her new home in Florida.

Many singers will be needed to replace Marcy's numerous other jobs and related activities. She spent 12 years on the Travel Committee, six of them as chairwoman. She created a viable Ways and Means Committee and stayed with it for 13 years. A multitude of additional tasks she monitored ranged from ensuring the Festival Chorus complies with all state of Illinois laws for nonprofits to collecting money from singers to buy Festival Chorus shirts.

With the rest of the members of the Festival Chorus, Marcy will be singing Irving Berlin's "America," the music of MGM, a salute to the armed forces and several more theme related items. You don't want to miss a moment of the May 1 performance, so get your tickets ASAP. Prices range from $12 to $18 and can be purchased at harpercolege.edu/box/office or by calling (847) 925-6100.

At the end of the performance, look forward to cheering the chorus and waving so long to its best friend, Mary Heston.
