Two Downers Grove restaurants host benefit for library foundation during National Library Week

To celebrate National Library Week, The Foxtail, a Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Downers Grove, is generously donating 20% of all proceeds from lunch, dinner and takeout orders on April 5-7 of National Library Week for diners who mention that they are "Here for the Library."

Additionally, Pierce Tavern, the original location of the Downers Grove Public Library 130 years ago, will be donating $1 from the sale of every "The Librarian" craft cocktail for the entire week of April 3-9 to the Downers Grove Public Library Foundation.

Reservations in advance are encouraged, as The Foxtail, which opened in 2020 at 5237 Main St., is one of the most popular restaurants in downtown Downers Grove.

Diners can reserve a table for lunch or dinner, or carryout on Tuesday to Thursday April 5-7, and must mention that they are dining or carrying out their order "for the library."

Before heading to dinner, library supporters can stop by Pierce Tavern at 5135 Main St. and toast this historic connection to the library's beginnings by purchasing the specialty cocktail including house infused blueberry Sneaky Fox vodka, pineapple, ginger beer and blueberries.

The Downers Grove Public Library Foundation's mission is to support library enhancements beyond traditional expenses by providing funding for extraordinary gifts.

Recently, that took the form of purchasing additional e-book titles (while the building was closed to the public), as well as sourcing pairs of EnChroma glasses to assist patrons who experience color blindness, and even funding a fair hourly wage for an on-site social worker.

Community members and library fans alike are encouraged to help the Library Foundation continue to fund extraordinary gifts to the library while also supporting two downtown Downers Grove businesses by participating in this National Library Week celebration.

For those who cannot participate in-person, donations may also be made to the Library Foundation's website, www.dgplfoundation.org.
