McHenry County College to host 24-Hour Play Competition

The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College is bringing back its popular 24-Hour Play Competition this spring.

The Competition challenges groups of two to seven people to write, rehearse, and perform a play within 24 hours. Groups will arrive at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 22, and work through April 23 until performances begin at 7 p.m. that evening.

"This event is a fun way for people to test their creativity," said Jay Geller, instructor of theater and speech at MCC. "It pushes participants to their limits and teaches them to collaborate with each other - all under the pressure of a running clock."

There will be a cash prize given for the winning play. Food and beverages will be provided throughout the 24 hours. There is a $25 entry fee per group. Be prepared to stay all night and through the next day. The competition is open to the public.

Groups can sign up at bit.ly/3LWlwln. Signup deadline is April 15.

The competition will be held at the Luecht Auditorium at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Park in parking lots B or C.
