Glenbard East to perform 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)' Feb. 2-5

Glenbard East Theatre will present "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [Revised]" written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield.

This is Shakespeare meets Monty Python in a fast-paced comedy. The company of actors set out to perform all of Shakespeare's play in one evening of theater and the hilarity that ensues. It is light, interactive and a fun night of theater. The original show was written in 1987, and this is the updated/revised version from 2011.

The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, and Friday to Saturday, Feb. 4-5, as well as a matinee performance at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in Ryder Hall, 1014 S. Main St. in Lombard.

Tickets are $8, available online at www.gefinearts.org/theatre or at the door.

Here are Glenbard East Theatre director Josh Rubin's answers to some questions about the production.

Q: Why did you choose "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" for Glenbard East High School's winter play?

A: We chose this show because we thought with everything going on in the world right now our audiences could use a little bit of laughter and joy. The actors break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience, helping to connect them to the show.

Q: How many students are involved with the production?

A: The cast consists of a group of 19 ensemble members or players. This is expanded from 3 cast members in the original production.

Q: How will your play differ from the original?

A: Along with the expanded cast, we had to adapt some of the movement and humor to accommodate wearing masks and social distancing.

Q: What do you think audiences will enjoy most about this play?

A: We think they will appreciate the crazy, fun and humorous nature of the show, along with the references to Shakespeare's great works.
