Cristian Diaz-Santos of Waukegan, Ill. Wins 2021 Sullivan Foundation Scholarship

Over $940,000 in educational assistance awarded to students from 18 states and 7 countries.

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, a century old organization that honors, supports, and educates emerging servant leaders at colleges and universities across the American South, proudly announces that Christian Diaz-Santos of Waukegan, Ill. has been named a 2021 Sullivan Foundation Scholarship winner. Currently a student at Sewanee: University of the South in Sewanee. Tenn., Diaz-Santos'scholarship is valued at $1,000, and is renewable annually for four years.

Awarded each year since 1934, Sullivan Scholarships celebrate incoming freshmen at 23 partner colleges and universities who possess exemplary character and integrity along with a passion for serving others. This year's 122 Sullivan Scholarship winners will divide more than $940,000 in scholarship funds.

"It is an honor to recognize these students for their commitment to serving others above self-interest," said Steve McDavid, president of The Sullivan Foundation. "These scholarships are not awarded based on financial need, nor academic or athletic achievement. They exist to support help students, who have consistently worked in a hands-on manner to improve their communities, continue their education."

The Sullivan Foundation does not directly provide scholarships to students or accept applications. Each Sullivan Foundation partner school selects its Sullivan Scholarship recipients and oversees the application process. Qualified candidates planning to attend a Sullivan Scholarship school should contact the school's financial aid department for more information about applying.
