Holiday Giveback at the North Suburban YMCA Includes 'Blessing Bags' for the Homeless

The North Suburban YMCA's Social Responsibility Committee is hosting a Holiday Giveback Drive and Packing Day event, with a focus on collecting essential items for "Blessing Bags" to donate to the homeless. The Committee will be delivering the "Blessing Bags" to the homeless through Project I Am, a Chicago-based 501c charity.

Volunteers are needed to participate in the Y's "Blessing Bags" packing day on Saturday, December 4 from noon to 2pm at the Y, located at 2705 Techny Rd. in Northbrook. Packing day will also include holiday craft making and a special visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

To fill each "Blessing Bag" the NSYMCA is collecting essential items including baby wipes, mini-bottled waters, socks, Neosporin, travel-sized first aid kits, chap stick, travel-sized Vaseline, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, travel-sized shampoo and conditioner, washcloths, pocket tissues, granola bars or trail mix, peppermints, and travel-sized hand sanitizer. All donations can be dropped off at the Y' front desk through Dec. 3.

"There are so many ways that our community can donate to the Y's Holiday Giveback cause. You can sign up to pack blessing bags, make a donation of essential items, or make a cash donation,"explained Kathy Fielding, CEO of the NSYMCA. "Generosity is a powerful way to help those experiencing homelessness and unites us in our shared humanity. Caring for each other and giving back to our communities builds our resilience and changes lives for the better."

To be a "Blessing Bag" packing day volunteer, please register. For information on the Y's Holiday Giveback packing event or to make a donation, visit nsymca.org or call (847) 272-7250.
