Elgin History Museum offers one-of-a-kind experiences in online auction
While there will be no in-person fundraising gala this year, the Elgin History Museum wanted to offer something special in the online auction. Generous donors have allowed the museum to offer one-of-a-kind experiences you can enjoy with friends and family.
• Wing Mansion: Tour this stately Victorian house (972 W. Highland) with owners Steve Thoren and Maureen McWaid. Marvel at the furnishings and collections, then take a ride in Steve's Model T Ford.
• Toy Story: Walk through the amazing museum bungalow of Dennis and Laurie Roxworthy's vintage toy and bicycle collection. Plus, there are a few full size vintage cars.
• This Old House: Elgin architectural historian Rebecca Hunter digs deep to find out the secrets of your old house. Heritage plaque application included.
• Walk On: Elgin historian Jerry Turnquist will lead a walking tour almost anywhere in Elgin. You pick the place and Jerry will walk with you and a group of friends telling stories of the area and pointing out architectural details.
• History Happenings: Focus on Elgin history from a women's point of view with a program from Linda Rock. Choose from topics such as Elgin American Compacts, artist Jane Peterson, or candy manufacturing in Elgin.
The 2021 Zoom Gala takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.
Enjoy a live recap of the online auction while you place your final bids. Highlights from the "Museum Moments" series will be presented and the winners will be announced live by 7:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the evening's activities go toward keeping the museum active and vibrant.
