Northwestern Mutual-Chicago Strengthens Commitment To End Childhood Cancer Donating $15,000 to Comer Children's Hospital

This year alone, more than 15,000 children will be diagnosed with childhood cancer. Northwestern Mutual, along with its financial advisors and employees, is devoted to accelerating the search for better treatments and cures for childhood cancer, while also supporting families battling the disease and survivors struggling with the late effects of treatment. Through its Foundation, the company is recognizing seven of its offices for their notable support of the cause through the 2021 Childhood Cancer Impact Awards.

Northwestern Mutual-Chicago has been recognized as one of the company's 2021 Childhood Cancer Impact Award recipients, receiving a $15,000 grant on behalf of Comer Children's Hospital to support childhood cancer research.

"Nationwide, our advisors and staff continue to demonstrate that their offices are more than just a place to work, but a place where they can make a difference in their community and in the lives of others," said Eric Christophersen, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. "We're honored to recognize our passionate and dedicated advisors as they continue to go above and beyond in their efforts to help create better outcomes for children with cancer."

Since 2014, the Northwestern Mutual-Chicago network office, which includes offices in Deerfield, Oak Brook and Rosemont, has supported childhood cancer efforts through volunteering and fundraising. With many in the office impacted directly by the disease, the team rallied together to form their Childhood Cancer Impact Committee which is made up of 40 individuals of varying roles within the office. Through this common goal of raising awareness and funds to support those impacted by the disease, the office has hosted an annual golf outing event, gift card drives to benefit families at the Ronald McDonald House, races and other in-office fundraising activities to benefit organizations like Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and local hospitals. Additionally, the office has supported a local scholar who was impacted by childhood cancer through Northwestern Mutual's Childhood Cancer Scholarship Program.

"No child or family should have to go through the pain and suffering of watching someone endure childhood cancer," said Corey McQuade, managing partner, Northwestern Mutual-Chicago. "Our office has made it our mission to support efforts to end childhood cancer, and we are honored to provide the Comer Children's Hospital with funding that will support research and help make a difference in the lives of children suffering from pediatric cancer."

Since 2012, the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Program has contributed more than $35 million in funding to find better treatments and cures, providing family and patient support and aiding those who continue to struggle with long-term effects of cancer treatment. Since 2014, the company's Childhood Cancer Impact Awards has donated $2,295,000 in grants on behalf of the winning offices to childhood cancer nonprofits nationwide.
