Drop-in teen programming to begin at Izaak Walton Youth Center

The Hanover Township Department of Youth & Family Services will launch their new drop-in teen programming Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Izaak Walton Youth Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.

The hours for this program for middle school students are 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays.

High school aged youth drop-in programming will take place every Friday from 3 to 6 p.m beginning Nov. 12.

"Teens want to hang out with other teens in a casual, but safe environment," said Tina Houdek, Director of Youth & Family Services. "Kids can come with their friends but also meet other teens from across the township."

Youth Center teen programming activities include the option to participate in cooking lessons, playing video games, homework help, dances as well as numerous other self-expression activities including art, creative writing and more. Youth can also stop by to hang out with other teens at the center.

The township board of trustees approved the transition of the facility to the Izaak Walton Youth Center allowing for the creation of space that focuses on outreach programs specifically geared for community youth. Additional youth center programs will be announced in the coming months.

Hanover Township serves over 101,000 residents in portions of the Cook County communities of Streamwood, Elgin, Bartlett, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.
