The Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., presents the Midwest Impact Day of Service 2021 (MIDS 2021).

Themed "Secure the Bag: Buy Black," this year's event, on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, focuses on supporting the Black-owned businesses in the Northwest Suburbs. This event is free and open to the public.

"Small businesses and entrepreneurs have been longtime wealth builders in our country; however, Black-owned businesses have not had the same opportunities," says Chantelle Porter, president of the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. "Supporting Black business ownership is a path for creating sustained, multigenerational wealth and closes the racial wealth gap."

The first part of the event takes place from 10 a.m. to noon CST with a Virtual Pop-up Shop, via Zoom, featuring the following Black-owned businesses:

• AnnieBea Company

• Color Street

• Jennifer's Cookies

• My BLING Place

• The Center for Wellness Encounters (TCWE);

• The Gift Shop

• Upliftea.

The second part of the event is the Black Restaurant Takeover. The Black Restaurant Takeover has the chapter and community showing support of the following Black-owned businesses by flooding them by dining in-person or making online pickups:

• Moni's Soulfood Fiesta, 13 Douglas Ave., Elgin

• Priscilla's Ultimate Soulfood Cafeteria, 1840 Army Trail Road, Hanover Park
