Meet local artist Sandie Bacon Art Pop event in Lake Forest

Art Pop, the pop-up art gallery in downtown Lake Forest, will feature the first in a series of special Artist-in-Residence events featuring artist and teacher Sandie Bacon from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23.

Bacon will present information on techniques for drawing and painting and use of various paints, and also share the story of her diverse career in the arts.

Art Pop, a joint venture between Artists on the Bluff, Deerpath Art League and The Artisan Guild, is a volunteer, nonprofit art gallery installed in unleased shops in the center of Lake Forest.

The shop's management has provided space for the venture with the idea that the gallery may have to move with a month's notice; the group has been at 724 N. Western Ave. since June, and was at a previous location for several months before that.

Every six weeks, more than 30 artists display their works for sale, and the goal for the shop is to help support artists and promote the arts to the community while invigorating the downtown.

Bacon, well known in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff as well as the Midwest, is a painter, illustrator, art teacher, and muralist who has a long history of working with the community to promote the arts.

She also serves as the regional instructional resource for Golden Paint Company, the leading supplier of acrylic art paint and other art supplies. Bacon travels around the Midwest teaching and lecturing about techniques, paints, and art on behalf of Golden.

Lake Bluff and Lake Forest residents will recognize her murals around the downtown and in Sunset Foods. She also serves as co-president of Artists on the Bluff and is a leading force behind the establishment of Art Pop.

Admission to the Artist in Residence afternoon is free, and visitors can drop in any time during the 1-3 p.m. period. Masking is required.
