Aurora Regional Fire Museum to host free Community Hero Day and live burn demonstration Oct. 2
The Aurora Regional Fire Museum will host its fourth annual Community Hero Day on Saturday, Oct. 2. The free community event will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum, 53 N. Broadway in Aurora.
The event will feature a Touch-A-Truck with vehicles from over a dozen community organizations spanning from safety to community services. Additionally, families will have an opportunity to interact with 14 community partners and 11 craft vendors.
The Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board will be on hand with their fire sprinkler demonstration trailer.
New this year, board will be conducting a live fire demonstration at 1 p.m. Learn firsthand how quickly fires can spread as well as the importance of fire sprinklers in saving lives and property.
Event highlights include:
• Touch-a-Truck featuring 22 vehicles from a variety of community heroes;
• Free fire truck rides by Mrs. O'Leary's Fire Truck Tours;
• Safety information and booths from the community partners;
• 11 local artists and artisans;
• Food available for purchase from Dr. Gillerson's Emergency Meat Trailer;
• Pop-up COVID-19 vaccine clinic;
• Live DJ playing family friendly music.
Hosted at the beginning of Fire Prevention Month, Community Hero Day allows the museum to educate the entire community about fire safety and safety in our community.
"This is our largest event yet!," said executive director Brian Failing. "As families continue to spend more time in their homes, it is more important than ever to learn about fire safety and those who are heroes in our community."
The event will include vehicles from the Aurora Fire Department, Aurora Police Department, Aurora Emergency Management Agency, Nicor Gas, Ozinga, Groot, Kane County Sheriff, West & Sons Towing, and the Illinois Tollway, PepsiCo, Illinois Army National Guard, and Kane County Emergency Management Agency.
Community Hero Day is presented by First Alert and is free to the entire community due to the generous support of First Alert and all of the generous sponsors.
The Aurora Regional Fire Museum preserves the history of the Aurora Fire Department and fire service in the region through collections and exhibits while educating visitors about fire safety and prevention. The museum welcomes over 10,000 visitors annually for tours, programs, and events.
