Celebrating 60 at St. Emily School

Mt. Prospect's St. Emily School is celebrating 60 years since its founding in 1961.

In observance of the feast of St. Emily, the weekend of September 18 and 19, parishioners, school families and alumni were invited to visit St. Emily School after Mass in church. This special open house gave visitors the opportunity to see the school and how it has changed over the years.

St. Emily's Pastor, Fr. James Presta, Principal, Ms. Karen Booth, school faculty, and staff members welcomed all guests. Students from St. Emily NJHS were positioned throughout the school to answer questions. Following Mass, St. Emily students arrived with their parents, grandparents and friends, eager to show their classrooms and anniversary projects.

St. Emily students prepared for the event by creating displays on various aspects of St. Emily School over the past 60 years. Exhibits included past and present teachers, school timelines, former and current uniforms, art projects, essays, and tributes to the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, who were commissioned as the original school faculty.

Open house guests were also treated to a scoop of Capannari ice cream, to commemorate St. Emily School's 15 winning years in the Capannari Coolest School contest.
