The fotoMuses present 'Abstraction & Transformation' - a photo exhibit - through Sept. 29

The fotoMuses, a group of women photographers, reveal their newest exhibit, "Abstraction & Transformation," at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg, now through Sept. 29, 2021. This exhibit brings a photographic interpretation with unique compositions showcasing the individuality of each artist; through the medium of photography.

Coordinators of this creative exhibit are Barb Work of Wheaton and Joan Ladendorf of Hanover Park. This group often chooses themes to give their exhibits a little more coherence, but also to bring new challenges to its members. As our current pandemic world situation brings many new challenges, the fotoMuses decided to "break the rules" and express one's artistic nature through abstracts or transformed originals using creative techniques. Their ideas and emotions may be expressed without the intent of creating a realistic or traditional image.

In Work's pieces, she brings her vision of the South African artist, Daniel Popper's exhibition at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle.

"As my foreground, I used Popper's stunning sculptures," she said, adding, "the titles of my pieces reflect the statues placement in the surreal surroundings I created for each."

Ladendorf's creativity involves photo collages.

"For this exhibit, I composed cutout pieces from many different texture photos taken of rocks and slag," she said. Her photos are beautifully assembled digitally and enhanced with dimensional techniques in Photoshop. She is also known for her impressionistic photos of lakes and skies.

As you look at the images in this exhibit you might challenge yourself to identify the original subject. But here, reality is just the starting point. The show is a fun assemblage of the variety of techniques available digitally for artists to explore. You are invited you to explore the world of abstraction and transformation.

In its 22nd year, the fotoMuses is an artful group of women who display their photos in a creative, professional way. The group is currently made up of 13 women mainly from the Western suburbs, most of whom met while discovering their creative sides together through the photography program at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn.

Additional fotoMuses members include Joanne Barsanti and Judy Kinal of Roselle, Marita Blanken and Linda Markese of Downers Grove, Anne Frantzen and Joan Trushin of West Chicago, Delta Greene of Chicago, Janice Henry of Bloomingdale, Joan Kalmanek of Lisle, Cheryl Rausch of Lombard and Marje Reichart of St. Charles.
