Signal Hill NSDAR to honor veterans this December at Evergreen Cemetery

Remember. Honor. Teach. This is the mission of Wreaths Across America, to remember veterans' service by placing wreaths on their graves, honor their sacrifice, and teach children the value and cost of service to our country.

This year's theme is "Live Up To Their Legacy," reminding all of us that the actions of servicemen and women provide benefits to us all. Members of the Signal Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution of Barrington, IL will sponsor a wreath laying event this Holiday Season with the third celebration of Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery, 610 South Dundee Ave., in Barrington. Nearly 700 veterans' graves have been identified at Evergreen dating back to the Civil War, and the goal is to honor each one with a live balsam wreath.

This event will be held under the guidance of prevailing COVID-19 precautions. At this time, the event planners hope to have a live memorial ceremony, and then proceed directly with the wreath placement. Community volunteers will be provided wreaths and will be directed to specific areas of the cemetery to make certain all veterans' graves are provided a wreath. The memorial nature and timing of the event encourages family and community participation.

Wreaths are obtained through contributions, which can be grave specific at Evergreen, or placed randomly on identified veterans' graves. Citizens, families and groups that are interested in sponsoring wreaths or participating in this event may visit www.WreathsAcrossAmerica.org/ILEGCA or contact the Signal Hill project coordinator at Signalhillnsdar@gmail.com.

Placement of wreaths will begin at noon on Dec. 18, 2021, rain/snow or shine, and will continue until all wreaths are laid.
