P.E.O. Chapter DY of Elgin awards scholarship

P.E.O. Chapter DY of Elgin is pleased to announce the award of the first Chapter DY Illinois Scholarship to Mary Sabo, a 2021 graduate of Larkin High School in Elgin. Sabo is committed to academic excellence, dedicated to her musical endeavors, and determined to assume responsibility for her own education. She exhibits strong work ethic and character. Mary will attend Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, in the fall where she will major in English Literature.

This year, the Chapter DY Illinois Scholarship was given in memory of Mary Peterson who was a longtime Elgin resident and member of Chapter DY.

She was an educator and strong supporter of P.E.O. projects as well as of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

P.E.O is an international philanthropic and educational women's organization founded in 1869. The organization supports and promotes education for women including seniors in high school, college students, doctoral students, and women of all ages who are interested in pursuing continuing education.

Chapter DY was chartered in 1933 and is one of 6,000 chapters with 205,000 members nationwide.
