Troop 37 to host candy-themed outdoor event in Des Plaines

Troop 37, Scouts BSA, is hosting its annual kids event from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Izaak Walton League Woods in Des Plaines.

This free outdoor event is open to children in fourth, fifth or junior high grades.

This year's theme is "Candy Crush Scout Saga," based on the popular gaming app. During the event, Scouts will lead the kids through a series of candy-themed adventures related to outdoor skills.

Light lunch of Box Oven pizza will be provided and, yes, there will be candy. Those who wish to stay for dinner, evening campfire and overnight camping with the troop are also welcome to do so.

Participants do not need to be in Cub Scouts to attend, but Webelos members of Cub Scout packs will be able to earn Adventure requirements.

Guests are asked to RSVP to ArlingtonHeightsTroop37@gmail.com so that the troop can plan for enough supplies.

The event will be held at Des Plaines Izaak Walton League, 1841 S. River Road, Des Plaines. Parking is available in the circle drive near the ranger house and a restroom is also available on-site.

Masks may be required due to council rules and current COVID transmission rates at the time of the event.

Troop 37 has a 75-year history and is sponsored by the St. Peter's Lutheran Laymen's League in Arlington Heights. The troop is open to youth from throughout the Northwest suburbs.

In recent years, Troop 37 has earned numerous honors, including District Troop of the Year; Most Eagle Scouts in District; Arlington Heights Hearts of Gold; and Camp Napowan Honor Troop.

The Scouts camp monthly with activities like canoeing, hiking and caving. They are also planning to attend Florida Seabase BSA High Adventure Base in 2022.
