Get your lucky ducks now for Buffalo Grove Rotary event

The Buffalo Grove Rotary Club's annual Duck Race fundraiser will be livestreamed on Facebook Live Sunday, Sept. 5.

Ducks are on sale now through race day, and will be drawn live when 13 lucky duck cash prize winners will be announced starting at 5 p.m.

As was done in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Duck Race will take place in a residential pool instead of occurring at BG Days, a five-day celebration leading up to and through the Labor Day holiday. More information on this year's festival can be found at bgdays.com.

The Duck Race is the Rotary Club's largest fundraiser of the year and helps to support and make possible a vast range of local and international charitable service efforts. These include community grants given to local nonprofits to help them serve their target populations, college scholarships for Buffalo Grove and Stevenson High School students, a foreign exchange program and Thanksgiving food baskets for in-need families.

The club also provides funding assistance for international clean water efforts, polio eradication and yearly mission trips to Guatemala, where Rotarians volunteer their time on development projects, as well health care and educational initiatives for local residents.

"We invite community members to purchase a lucky duck, or two (or more), so that our club can continue to support service projects in our area and in the international community," said Duck Race Chairman Bill Donahue.

"Through your support, you can join us in positively impacting the lives of others experiencing a range of challenges, including food insecurity, as well as helping to fund charitable organizations and to help local students go to college through scholarships."

Ducks are available for purchase online now until noon Sunday, Sept. 5, at bgrotary.org/duckrace.

One "Lucky Duck" is $5; a "Quack Pack" (six ducks) is $25; or a "Flock of Ducks" (25) is $100. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first 13 Duck Race winners; the owner of the first-place (the luckiest) duck wins $1,500, second place wins $500 and third place wins $250. The final 10 ducks that waddle over the finish line will win $100 each for their owners.

Visit the Buffalo Grove Rotary Club's Facebook page Facebook.com//BuffaloGroveRotary starting just before 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5. If you can't make it live, the winners will be posted on the Facebook page by noon on Labor Day.
