Twenty-first Star Chapter NSDAR Promotes Constitution Week

Posters and displays, provided by the Twenty-first Star Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, are appearing in many public areas this month to encourage the celebration of Constitution Week Sept. 17-23.

This annual observance was established by Public Law 915 on August 2, 1956 and begins on the day the Constitution was signed in 1787. Local schools, government offices, libraries, historical societies, chambers of commerce, veteran's organizations, park facilities, teen centers, and senior centers are the primary recipients of Constitution Week promotional efforts by the Twenty-first Star Chapter.

Constitution Week Committee members prepare displays, contact mayors for proclamations, and distribute posters to a variety of organizations. We concentrate our efforts on those organizations that share a similar focus as DAR on education, historic preservation, and patriotism to help bring the public's attention to Constitution Week. Constitution Week provides the perfect opportunity for studying the Constitution of the United States of America and reflecting on the heritage of freedom that it provides.

Known as the largest women's patriotic organization in the world, DAR has over 185,000 members with approximately 3,000 chapters in all fifty states and thirteen foreign countries. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal decent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership. The DAR recognizes "Patriots: as not only soldiers but also anyone who contributed to the cause of American freedom."
