Seminole Sports' inaugural softball All-Star Weekend a huge success

Seminole Sports hosted its inaugural All-Star Weekend softball event July 30 to Aug. 1 in Schaumburg. The event took place at Olympic Park and included two age brackets, 12U and 14U, of softball players from the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin area.

Teams that had participated in previous Seminole events this year were able to nominate two players from their roster to come to All-Star Weekend. At the event, all-stars competed in various skills competitions and joined random teams to play in a tournament filled with other nominated all-stars.

Various coaches who left a positive impression on Seminole Sports staff throughout the season were also invited to volunteer as a coach for an all-star team.

Peyton Arenson, a high school softball coach at New Trier, helped Seminole Sports with the event by volunteering to set up and run the skills competitions, which took place Friday, July 30. They included ground ball and pop fly drills, a home run derby, speed and throwing competitions.

Games were played Saturday and Sunday. Individual awards were passed out for skills competition champions, as well as team MVPs. Each athlete was also given a certificate commemorating their nomination to All-Star Weekend.

Due to the solid turnout and large amount of positive feedback, the weekend was a huge success in the eyes of Seminole Sports. The organization looks forward to continuing to improve and expand the event.
