Learn to Love events educate locals about area wildlife and domestic animals

Anderson Humane, in partnership with Gerald Subaru of North Aurora, is launching a new initiative aimed at providing community members multiple opportunities to learn more about wild and domestic animals and how to care for them as well as interact with ambassador animals and their caregivers.

The informational and interactive events will take place at Gerald Subaru of North Aurora (205 Hansen Blvd., North Aurora, IL 60542) three times throughout 2021. It's a unique opportunity to inform the public about the wildlife Anderson Humane encounters in the community and neighborhoods on a daily basis and give individuals the chance to see some of these animals up close.

"These events support our efforts to help people understand the importance and effects animals have in our lives and how we can continue to care for them in a constantly changing ecosystem," said Greg A. Mucha, director of corporate partnerships for Anderson Humane.

In addition to education, Mucha hopes the Learn to Love initiative inspires individuals to get involved with the organization and potentially become a volunteer. Volunteers are key to the organization's success and the animals' well-being, and Mucha said Anderson Humane could not accomplish all it does without volunteers' help and hard work. He encouraged anyone who stops by the event and is interested in volunteering to reach out to volunteer director Karen Kuramitsu at (847) 697-2880 to learn about potential options.

"There are numerous opportunities and various levels of participation. Many of our volunteers advance in care through continued education and training, and in some cases, become members of our caring staff," said Mucha.

Learn to Love would not be possible without sponsorship from Gerald Subaru of North Aurora. In addition to lending space for the event, the dealership's support funds transportation of the animals to each Learn to Love program and makes this outreach effort possible by providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for our attendees, animals and staff during the visits.

"We are thrilled to bring these informational events to our Gerald Subaru of North Aurora dealership. Anderson Humane does amazing work to help dogs and cats find forever homes as well as help wildlife thrive in their natural environments," said Donna Lawler, Vice President of Gerald Auto Group. "We look forward to our customers having an opportunity to learn, hands on, about animals from Anderson Humane while here visiting the dealership."

Dates for Learn to Love events are still being finalized. Continue to check in with Anderson Humane and Gerald Subaru of North Aurora's Facebook pages for the latest updates on dates and times.

"Gerald Subaru of North Aurora Illinois has been a wonderful supporter of Anderson Humane (aka Anderson Animal Shelter) for the past few years, but even more so during the pandemic year of 2020. With their generous financial support and volunteerism, we were able to help over 7,000 animals in a year when most animal welfare organizations had to close or reduce the availability of their services. With the help of Gerald, we were able to continue our mission without major interruptions," said Mucha.
