DuPage Children's Museum to host Chalk Art Event Aug. 14

Come get creative with DuPage Children's Museum's Chalk Art Event Aug. 14

The DuPage Children's Museum in Naperville invites families to get creative at Chalk Art, an event inspired by a kid-favorite - sidewalk chalk!

On Saturday, Aug. 14, the whole family can come dressed for a colorful mess from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the museum's parking lot, 301 N. Washington St. in Naperville.

"Many children and adults are familiar with sidewalk chalk, as it's been a family favorite for generations. Therefore, it can encourage family members of all ages to play and get messy together," said Cassie Coffey, DCM's Guest Experience senior manager.

Guests attending the event will have the opportunity to explore chalk pod physics with slingshots and catapults, smash and mix their own chalk paint, create chalk stencil art, design imagination hopscotch, and interact with chalk artists to create collaborative art.

"These activities are both approachable and unique ways to engage with chalk as a medium. I'm excited to see how colorful our guests will get during their play," Coffey said.

The chalk art event at DCM creates a space for thoughtful and intentional exploration.

"At DuPage Children's Museum, we value children's creativity. Chalk Art is a summertime tradition that has the wonderful potential for open-ended exploration," said Dustin Thacker, DCM's Arts & Maker specialist.

"This event was created to spark children's natural curiosity and to broaden their understanding of the medium. Bringing in artists to work with children and their caregivers creates a dynamic atmosphere where children can see themselves as artists and creators in new and exciting ways."

Chalk Art is included with museum admission or membership, and preregistration is required.

Admission to DuPage Children's Museum is $15; $14 for seniors 59 or older. It's free for members and children younger than 1 year. Learn more and get tickets at dupagechildrens.org/chalk-art.

Masks are required at the museum for everyone ages 2 and older. As the museum's primary audience is young children who are not yet eligible for vaccination against COVID-19, the museum requires masks be worn inside the building as well as outside while participating in the outdoor Chalk Art activities.

The museum helps develop curiosity, creativity, thinking, and problem solving in young children through its mission: DuPage Children's Museum ignites the potential of all children to learn through hands-on exploration by integrating art, math, and science.

In a typical year, DCM serves more than 300,000 visitors representing all 50 states and 575 ZIP codes in Illinois. Its reach and support represent well beyond the Chicago area.
