College of DuPage board chair elected vice president and president-elect of Illinois Community College Trustees Association
College of DuPage Board Chair Maureen Dunne recently was elected vice president and president-elect to the Illinois Community College Trustees Association for 2021-22.
Dunne began her term as vice president on July 1. Her term as ICCTA President begins in 2022.
COD President Dr. Brian Caputo applauded Dunne for her newly elected position.
"Chair Dunne has worked tirelessly to support students and help advance the work of community colleges across Illinois in her previous role as Secretary of the ICCTA," he said. "I am confident that she will bring the same tenacity to her new position. Through her dedicated leadership and commitment to the community college system, Dunne is working to improve the lives of the people in Illinois for years to come."
In her new leadership role, Dunne will focus her efforts on helping communities across Illinois heal in a post-pandemic world.
"In times of economic downturn, government, communities and families look to community colleges as engines of recovery through workforce training and education," she said. "The ICCTA will play an essential role in confronting some of our most critical challenges on the road ahead, and I look forward to helping meet the needs of the communities we serve."
ICCTA Nominating Committee Chairman Bob Thompson said he looks forward to working with Dunne to help move the association forward.
"Maureen really jumped in when she started representing College of DuPage at ICCTA events," he said. "She's got talent that matches her intellect, and we couldn't be more fortunate to have her in leadership with our association."
A COD graduate, Dunne obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Chicago, a master's from the London School of Economics and a doctorate in cognitive sciences from Oxford University, where she was a Rhodes Scholar.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Dunne has co-founded, led and advised venture-backed technology companies and is the co-founder and Managing Partner of the first social impact investment association focused on neurodiversity. Dunne also currently serves on the Governing Board Council of Advocate Health-Good Samaritan Hospital and as a board director for Access to Care and Aspiritech, as well as serving on the executive board of the Downers Grove Economic Development Corporation.
A community leader, Dunne is a member of Rotary and a co-founder of a nonprofit initiative that sponsors coding bootcamps. She also is a member of the Association of Community College Trustees Public Policy and Advocacy Committee, where she guides legislative priorities impacting more than 12 million students attending community colleges across the United States and beyond.
