Gail Borden's South Elgin branch to celebrate 5 years with July 21 party

Gail Borden Public Library's South Elgin Branch has plenty to celebrate as it turns five this month, including the fact that it has welcomed more than 43,800 visitors since opening its doors in July 2016 as South Elgin's first library.

The library is inviting families to celebrate its five years of service with an anniversary party from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21 at Panton Mill Park, right on the Fox River on North Water Street in South Elgin. Music, games, prizes, snacks and more are planned for this free event.

Award-winning "kindie" duo Wendy and DB will perform a family concert beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The duo writes and performs songs about nature, animals, safety, diversity, science and the arts as well as kindness and inclusion. Using a variety of instruments and props, the duo will get preschoolers and families dancing, moving and singing with their lively music.

Families are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs along with a picnic dinner to enjoy during the concert. Other activities will include games and prizes, free treats and a bedtime storytime.

The Gail Borden Library Book Bike will be at the event and visitors will be able to finish their summer reading challenge by bringing their completed log to the event.
