Kane County is opening a third permanent Recycling Center

Kane County is opening a third permanent Recycling Center - this one in Aurora - for electronics, appliances, clothing, and scrap metal.

The grand opening at 911 N. Lake St., will be Monday, June 21. Year-round hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.

The county is now providing convenient electronics recycling across the county with recycling centers in Aurora (south), Batavia (central), and West Dundee (north). Visit

www.countyofkane.org/recycling for a full list of accepted items, locations, and hours.

All three recycling centers are open to the general public (from any county) and to businesses as well. Businesses just need to identify themselves as a business (which is as simple as bringing a business card to had the staff person). Go to the link above and scroll down to "Guidelines for Businesses" to see more detail.

All Kane County Recycling Centers are staffed, so they can unload for you.

In addition to electronics, accepted items include: appliances (such as toasters, blenders, microwaves, etc., but no Freon containing devices; scrap metal; and textiles and clothing. Books are only accepted at Batavia and West Dundee locations. Do not bring anything that is not on the accepted items list.

TVs and computer monitors are the only items that have a cost to recycle, all other items are free to drop off. Cost is $25 for screens under 21 inches (measured diagonally), and $35 for over 21 inches. It can be paid in advance online or on-site by credit card or exact cash payment.

Electronics are banned from Illinois landfills and must be recycled. TVs and monitors contain lead and/or mercury and must be processed as hazardous material, a more expensive process that makes the consumer-based fee a necessity. The fee is paid directly to the County's contracted electronics recycler eWorks Electronics Services, a nonprofit located in Elk Grove Village that employs people with developmental disabilities to help cover their costs to recycle these items. You are helping a good cause and responsibly, legally disposing of your used electronics!

All data stored on computer hard drives will be completely erased or destroyed under the highest security (meeting all FACTA privacy protection requirements). They use the BLANCO data erasure software and the Department of Defense Standard 7-pass kill disk. This applies to all Kane County Recycling Centers and events, as well as the Naperville site which is also managed and served by eWorks.

Partner Vet Tech US is a nonprofit organization dedicated to a long-term and prosperous relationship with communities in need. They support individuals and initiatives dedicated to promoting community development, prosperity, and innovation, which is part of the reason why they have partnered with the county and eWorks to host the new recycling center at their facility in Aurora.
