Eric Fischer Memorial Ride raises money for NSYMCA programs

The sudden passing of Wheeling resident Eric Fischer was honored on June 13 at the North Suburban YMCA campus, where more than 130 friends and family attended the Eric Fischer Memorial Ride and Celebration.

Fischer, who unexpectedly died last year at 54, was known by the community for his generous and loving spirit.

To commemorate his life and legacy, Fischer's family and friends continued his philanthropic work by creating the NSYMCA's Eric Fischer Memorial Fund. The event raised more than $6,500, helping to fund the North Suburban YMCA's financial assistance aid to families, seniors and children in need.

Over the last couple of years, Eric also attended and supported the NSYMCA's Strong Kids Fundraising Dinner, which is now called the Community Strong Fundraiser.

The memorial event began at Willow Creek Church in Barrington with a motorcycle ride of more than 70 riders, that ended at the NSYMCA. The two-hour celebration included stories about Eric, speeches, food, music and motorcycle mania sponsored by Sunset Foods, FGK Services, and Horcher's Service.

"What an awesome event. Eric would be so pleased. Eric loved people and had such a giving spirit, which was a perfect way to keep his legacy alive through financial aid at the Y," said Kim Fischer.

Throughout the years, The North Suburban YMCA has offered memorials and honorariums for beloved family members, friends, colleagues and community members. The honorariums can be in remembrance of someone who has passed, or include happy occasions such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, retirements and graduations.

They can also be part of a donation, memorial fund, memorial brick or through a designated donation to a specific YMCA program that best fits a loved one.

"We are so grateful that Eric's family and friends chose our Y to honor him," said Kathy Fielding, CEO of the North Suburban YMCA. "We always embrace families who want to continue to honor their loved ones' legacy of giving back to the community, similar to how we honored Eric and his family."
