Chicago Brass Band to play outdoor concert in Elgin

The renowned Chicago Brass Band will give a concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 19, on the spacious lawn in front of the Church of the Brethren General Offices, 1451 Dundee Ave., Elgin.

This is a competitive brass and percussion ensemble featuring 30 of the best musicians in the Chicago area. Under the direction of award-winning international conductor Dr. Colin Holman, the band performs music in the British brass band tradition but with a Chicago flair.

The band claims to be one of the finest ensembles of its type composed of cornets, flugel and tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones, tubas, and percussion in North America.

In the past 15 years, the Chicago Brass Band has won the North American Brass Band Association Championship, performed at the prestigious Midwest Clinic, and competed as the American representative at the World Music Contest in The Netherlands, the Whit Friday Contests in England, and the New Zealand National Brass Band Championships.

Admission is free. Concertgoers should bring lawn chairs or blankets. Parking is behind the office building. For information, email Shawn Flory Replogle at sfreplogle@brethren.org.

The concert is presented by the Church of the Brethren General offices. It is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council through federal funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
