Angelina in Barrington Expands with Social Design Club Grand Opening
Social Design Club, a new paper and party store in downtown Barrington, opened its doors on May 25, 2021 and is celebrating with a blowout bash of its own on Saturday, June 5 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The new shop is owned by Barrington resident, Katie Kuempel, who is also the 12-year owner of sister store, Angelina, which has moved into a new location next door.
Kuempel purchased Angelina, a lifestyle and accessories shop, from the original owner one week after graduating college. She worked at the store throughout her school years and had visions for the future growth of the concept. Angelina has been a marquee store in the center of the village for the past 19 years and Kuempel said, "we just started to outgrow the space. When the space next door became available, I knew we had to jump on it. I didn't want to lose the corner location, but it made sense to move Angelina into the larger space and create a new custom concept for the smaller corner spot."
Saturday's grand opening festivities for Social Design Club will include a prosecco truck from Bellissimo Bar Company from 4-6 p.m. and a cotton candy cart from Candy Cloud Company from noon to 2 p.m. Guests will also receive a complimentary goody bag with any purchase.
"We are excited to expand upon Angelina's offerings by giving customers fun party gifts and accessories that are hard to find at big box retailers or party places," continued Kuempel. "Our goal is to provide our customers with unique offerings that will allow them to create a beautiful, custom and thrilling experience for any party or gathering."
Specialty items at Social Design Club include a wrapping paper station with all the accessories, a Balloon Bar, custom stationery and custom party goods such as cups, coasters, napkins and more. The party store will also be offering a first of its kind Smart Card that gives customers the ability to personalize a standard paper card with a voice activated message. Customers can record a message that is scanned onto a QR code and affixed to a collection of cards, available exclusively at Social Design Club. When the receiver opens the card, they can scan the QR code on their iPhone and play the customized message from their family member or friend. The Smart Card Collection will include designs for birthday and other occasions and will be available later this month.
"We are always looking for ways to enrich our product lines and we know that our customers are looking to personalize every gift," continued Kuempel. "These Smart Cards are a way to show someone you care in a new and surprising way."
Due to the expansion, Angelina also now features a party room that is available for private events or meetings, and the store plans on offering a series of workshops in the space in the near future.
