Aurora launches new economic development website

Aurora's tagline - "There's Something Happening Here" - has been in heavy rotation when it comes to economic development in the City of Lights.

"Economic development has been one of the three priority pillars since we took office four years ago, and the measurable results are proof we are on the right track," said Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin, who issued a proclamation last week for National Economic Development Week. "Every sector of our city has development projects in the works or on the horizon, including all of the large longtime vacant and underused buildings in the downtown business district, like the iconic Hobbs Building."

The Hobbs Building Redevelopment Project, which was launched during a construction commencement ceremony last weekend, and all major economic development projects - past, present and immediate future - are the focal points on the Mayor's Office of Economic Development's new comprehensive and interactive website.

"For the first time, we have one central location where the public can view economic development activities in Aurora," said David Dibo, executive director of the Mayor's Office of Economic Development. "It is fascinating to see everything at a glance and to be able to visit each location to get detailed information virtually. We invite everyone to visit the site to see what really is happening and how Aurora will be shaped for generations to come because of it."

The website - www.aurora-il.org/EconomicDevelopment - features interactive maps and storyboards of current projects, future projects, and more than 25 projects completed since 2018. Each project includes renderings, status in the planning process, address, acreage, and land-use category. Available properties, including city-owned buildings, are also highlighted.

A hub for economic plans, studies, and reports, the website also hosts an archive portal of documents that are essential economic development drivers, including the City of Aurora's Comprehensive Plan, the Aurora Downtown Master Plan and Market Analysis, the Route 59 Corridor Study and Market Analysis, and the award-winning Aurora Sustainability Plan.

"The Mayor's Office of Economic Development initiates, advances plans, and follows through on all actions that lead to smart economic growth throughout Aurora," said Mayor Irvin. "The economic development team and our community partners are lighting the way for the future by making sure Aurora is open for business."

Also available on the new website are direct links to such partners as Invest Aurora, Aurora Downtown, the Aurora Area CVB and the three Chambers of Commerce.
