What started out as an idea, quickly turned into a massive neighborhood event attracting thousands of people
This is the story of a small town girl, turned community force! Janine Sasso, a Hoffman Estates resident, started a Neighborhood Garage Sale in 2015 and the idea quickly evolved into the Largest Garage Sale with over a hundred sellers opening up their garages to thousands of bargain hunters for one weekend only!
Sometimes the greatest things start out as a small idea. In this case, local resident and Real Estate Agent Janine Sasso, had the vision to create a small town community feel in a town of over 60,000 residents. No small undertaking but as it turned out that wouldn't stop this ambitious young lady. The vision was simple: Neighbors mingling with new and old neighbors, strangers helping each other loading up bargains into their cars, an afternoon of fun and activity in a normally quiet neighborhood.
"It's the one weekend during the year, I get to turn our neighborhood into a giant stage filled with activity and positive social interactions," Janine Sasso said in a statement.
Especially after the Covid Year of 2020, this year's sale is expected to outperform the previous years! Spectators have found high dollar treasures, fully furnished an entire apartment or shopped for that special bargain or collectible.
"My husband came home with the item of 2020 which was a 1973 Corvette Stingray," Janine Sasso said laughing. There is no telling the treasures that can be found in this year's sale but Janine Sasso will generally always release an early map for people on her VIP list to give them a headstart on the bargain hunt that is about to unfold.
The easiest way to find the sale? Enter the address for the local Community Center Willow Recreation, located at 3600 Lexington Dr, Hoffman Estates IL 60192. Grab a map at the door and head into the neighborhood to find those bargains and collectibles!
