Lake County Farm Bureau donates more than $3,100 in food

The Lake County Farm Bureau sponsored its annual Race For Hunger Wednesday, April 7, at the Antioch Piggly Wiggly.

This year's event pitted second term State Rep. Joyce Mason against freshman State Rep Chris Bos. The two had five minutes to race around the store filling their carts with nonperishable food items. As the clock ticked away, volunteers from the Lake County Farm Bureau unloaded the carts and the items were rung up by employees of the Piggly Wiggly.

The winner of the 2021 Race For Hunger was Bos with a grand total of $1,984.57. Mason had an impressive haul totaling $1,144.08. The Lake County Farm Bureau purchased all of the items totaling $3,128 and donated them to their respective food pantries. Bos donated his food to The Chapel Food Pantry in Mundelein, and Mason donated hers to the Open Arms Mission in Antioch.

"This annual event has allowed us to donate nearly $50,000 in food to local food pantries throughout Lake County," Lake County Farm Bureau Executive Director Gregory Koeppen said.

"While Rep. Bos was the winner this year, the real winners are those who will benefit from this food," Koeppen said.

The Lake County Farm Bureau thanks State Rep. Joyce Mason, State Rep. Chris Bos, the Antioch Piggly Wiggly and the Lake County Farm Bureau volunteers for making this such a successful event.
