North Suburban YMCA Hosts Annual Healthy Kids Day 5K Run/Walk on April 24

To celebrate Healthy Kids Day, the YMCA's national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families, the North Suburban YMCA held its fourth annual 5K Run/Walk at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 24th. The USATF Certified 5K race started and ended at the Y's parking lot in Northbrook.

The winners included Leo Jimenez in 18:10 (men's category); Lisa Harper in 26:14 (women's category); John Tirpak in 22:50 (under 19 boys category); and Kaitlyn Fielding in 31:37 (under 19 girls category). A virtual option was also available where participants created their own course and self-reported their results.

"We're so pleased that we can provide a safe, in-person 5K race that attracted adults and kids of all ages," noted Kathy Fielding, NSYMCA CEO. "At the Y we're all about making fitness fun and accessible for everyone."

"The support we received this year from local business for sponsorships was amazing, and we feel we broke records on partners wanting to support our mission and event," said NSYMCA Director of Community Investments Kim Nyren. "We were very humbled by the outpouring of support."

The Heathy Kids Day 5K sponsors included:

• Food and drink donations were made possible from Sunset Foods, Target-Glenview, Jewel-Glenview, and GoGo Squeeze. Tropical Smoothie Cafe of Glenview/Northbrook handed out fresh blended smoothies to all participants and staff after their race. Dairy Queen of Northbrook supplied winners with free blizzards coupons, and Bach to Rock played music during the event, keeping everyone energized and excited.
