Mundelein Farmers Market taking vendor applications

The Mundelein Farmers Market opens Friday, June 18, on East Park Street in downtown, and will continue from 3 to 7 p.m. every Friday through Octo. 15.

There are some changes planned for this year's market. First, welcome new market manager Becca Merkau, a longtime resident of Mundelein. Merkau is a Mundelein High School and College of Lake County graduate, active in the community, and an enthusiastic supporter of the farmers market.

Merkau is working with the MCC Market Committee to bring more prepared food vendors to the market, add a kids play zone, create a picnic area, enhance the craft beer and wine sampling and sales options and, if possible, add cooking and cooking product demonstrations.

Vendor applications are now being accepted. A range of food vendors are already signed up, including fresh produce, meats, cheese, honey, and prepared foods, plus assorted nonfood vendors. But there is room for more, particularly artisan bread, fresh eggs, specialty produce, and prepared foods.

If you are a vendor or know a potential vendor, contact Merkau, beccamerkau@gmail.com, or Terry Skriba, mundeleincc@tds.com.

The village of Mundelein and the Park Street restaurants are making plans to upgrade the west end of Park Street to blend the farmers market with the outdoor dining and music area along "restaurant row."

Plans include improving access, circulation, ambience and lighting. The goal is to create a comfortable, family friendly, festival-like feel to the Friday nights in downtown Mundelein this summer.
