NCH expands Cardiovascular Services
The NCH Medical Group announced the opening of a new Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Clinic to treat patients with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem. LAAC is a minimally invasive procedure that reduces stroke risk while eliminating the worries that come with a lifetime of blood thinner use. The clinic is comprised of a trusted group of cardiologists, electrophysiologists, advanced practice professionals and nurses to guide patients through every step of the process.
The LACC procedure, Watchman, is an option for patients who have:
• Experienced major bleeding while on a blood thinner.
• Difficulty taking blood thinners as directed.
• An occupation, health concern or lifestyle that puts them at risk for bleeding.
• Had multiple falls while on blood thinners or have balance issues.
"We are excited to add the LAAC as an integral part of our successful program," explains Raymond Kawasaki, M.D. "This focused clinic will allow providers a streamlined referral destination for those patients who would benefit from left atrial appendage closure. The patient will meet our team who will provide a thorough explanation of the LAAC device, its purpose, the procedure and follow-up. We believe this clinic will provide an efficient means of serving those patients who would benefit most from the procedure."
