MCC named military friendly school

McHenry County College has again earned the Military Friendly® School designation for 2021-2022. The Military Friendly Schools list is created each year based on public data sources, input from student veterans, and survey responses.

The survey measures an institution's ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

More than 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-2022 survey, with 747 earning the designation.

"We're extremely proud to be a Military Friendly School," said Gerardo Banuelos, who coordinates efforts in the Student Veterans Resource Center at MCC.

"It's a priority of ours to provide quality, individualized support to our members of the armed forces. We aim to assist our student veterans through every phase of their college experience - helping them apply and choose a program of study that draws on their military experience; providing academic and family support while they are in school; then offering career services as they enter the workforce."

In addition to the dedicated Student Veterans Resource Center on campus, MCC hosts an active chapter of the Student Veterans of America, which provides opportunities for social and academic networking among veterans on campus.

Veterans can also receive a variety of financial aid resources and scholarships to help pay for any books, supplies, or fees not covered by VA benefits.

"We want our student veterans to feel supported and empowered to reach their potential, both inside and outside the classroom," said Dr. Talia Koronkiewicz, vice president of student affairs at MCC.

"We're always looking for new opportunities to help them connect with fellow students, excel in their classes, and reach their goals."

The 2021-2022 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
