Join Schaumburg Library for its annual Comic Con

The Schaumburg Library's annual Comic Con will look different this year due to social distancing, but will still take place with many fun events.

Instead of one day, Comic Con will last from Monday, March 22, through Saturday, April 3, with a variety of outdoor and online activities related to comics and pop culture. Find out more about these events for all ages and register at SchaumburgLibrary.org/comic-con.

Activities include, but are not limited to, the following programs. Some are full, but have a waitlist.

• Artist Alley will take place on the library's website and feature artists Brian BMAN Babendererde, Penelopeloveprints, Raz Ortiz, Ryan Francis, Steph Stanga, Chris Ness, Enerjax, Rich Perez of Tango Comics, Tom Bacon, Apurva Dave and Alexander (aka "Circuit"). There will be a short biography of each artist and links to their websites.

• The Spiderverse Scavenger Hunt for all ages is happening from noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27, in various locations. Stop by the Central Library to pick up the first clue, then make five stops around the community to complete the mission.

• A drive-in movie showing "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse" (rated PG) will take place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, in the east parking lot of the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg. Participants should arrive early to find a parking spot and receive an FM transmitter for listening to the movie through the car radio.

• Other Comic Con programs include making puppets, comics, bullet journals, buttons and art, a stitch craft, building with bloxels, learning to use cosplay makeup, and competing in trivia contests. There will also be a presentation by Maggie Thompson, longtime editor of the former Comics Buyer's Guide, who will look back at the past 60 years of comics fandom and how it was built into the vast empire it is today.

Registration is required for all of these programs.

The Schaumburg Township District Library and its branches in Hoffman Estates and Hanover Park are open to the public with limited capacity and hours in accordance with COVID guidelines.
