Arlington Heights Garden Club offers scholarships

The Arlington Heights Garden Club will award two, $1,500 scholarships for students pursuing study in the fields of horticulture, botany, forestry, agriculture, marine biology or environmental sciences.

Related fields of interest will be given consideration. Extra credit is given if an applicant can demonstrate a working experience in the horticulture, floral, nursery or farming community.

Applicants for one of the scholarships must be residents of Arlington Heights or adjoining communities. The second scholarship is open to applicants living within a 20-mile radius of Arlington Heights.

All applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and be pursuing enrollment for the 2021-2022 school term in a vocational/technical school, community college or university. Graduate school also qualifies.

Scholarship applications are due May 1, with recipients announced the second week of June.

Application forms are available at all District 214 High School Career Center offices, Saint Viator High School and Christian Liberty Academy, and can be downloaded from the Arlington Heights Garden Club's website, www.ahgardenclub.com/copy-of-scholarship-information.

The site also includes a list of qualifying local schools and the relevant fields of study on offer.

Proceeds from the annual Garden Walk, scheduled for Sunday, June 27, and donations to the club are used to fund this scholarship program.
